Now I'll Have More Time to Make Pico de Gallo

We should all have more friends like my friend Steph. She invited a bunch of us - including a few of us Staffwise veterans, which is how I know Steph - over to her brand new condo in Silver Spring for a housewarming slash Grey's Anatomy season premiere party. Instead of having her slave away cooking for the ten of us, we all brought apps and had a little potluck. Of course I made pico de gallo and toasted some french bread in her (really freaking nice) oven for some bruschetta. Even though all the other apps were very tasty, I was the only one who brought something "homemade" (because "slicing" counts as homemade) and so Steph spent the entire night picking up the plate and asking everyone, "Have you had one of these yet!? They're so good!" And let's be fair, they were damn tasty. She also kept going on about what a "great" photographer I am (even though I haven't taken a photo in forever - in fact, I only got my one working camera back from Adrian last night - and, you know, am not really that great).

Anyway, it was all very sweet. And we all had a great time, between Yuengling's and way too many shots of the Patron that Sylvie was generous enough to bring. (Steph and I made an oh-it's-so-funny-I'm-going-to-slit-my-wrists toast to our unexpected career turns over the last year.) And her place is gorgeous, of course, and I got to meet a few of her friends I hadn't met before, so we all got sloshed, watched Dr. McDreamy, and stuffed our faces with yummy food. I was also asked to perform a dramatic reading of the angry letters Steph has received from her downstairs neighbor in the three weeks she's lived there. Apparently this is something I perfected during our many Staffwise happy hours last year, but I can't seem to remember what it was that I used to read. Shocking, I know.

Speaking of making things from my garden (sort of), my basil plant is totally out of control, so I've been making batches and batches of pesto every weekend. I'm perfecting the recipe, and think I might have it down, so if you want some, let me know. As for the rest of the garden, it's totally become a jungle. My busy schedule that ramped up at the end of the summer meant that the flowers got neglected first. However, I learned a wealth of information for next spring, so expect bigger and better! Maybe Rebecca and I will actually start that garden blog we talked about.

So yes, life is very busy, in all good ways, but lately I find that I'm forcing myself to write here most of the time, rather than doing it because it's fun. I'm not taking down the blog, but I need a break, so consider this my "Closed for Lunch" sign. I need to concentrate on other things for awhile, India being one of them, as it's creeping up closer and closer, and I haven't really prepared much (however, as of the last week in August, I officially saved up enough money for the entire trip and my plane ticket). I'm also starting a new freelance job soon, and of course, must eventually find that elusive permanent job. I'll still be writing a lot, just on that other site instead. Who knows, maybe once I post this I'll start missing my beloved blog immediately and be back in a week. But I've been thinking about this off and on for the last month, so we shall see.

i'm having friends over for dinner tomorrow. care to impart any words of advice (or, say, a recipe? ;)) for this infamous pico de gallo you speak of?

i promise to give the ensuing props ALL to you. something along the lines of "this girl i don't know and have never met... but who is HILARIOUS and has me checking her blog daily?! oh ps, i think her name might be heather? and she seems to make a sweeeet pico de gallo, since every other entry mentions it. and how i loooove pico de gallo".

Wait! I've been lurking and reading and now I can finally comment and admit to my lurkiness (there was a thing with Blogger and beta-Blogger and oh who cares?), and now you're not going to be posting?

Sheesh. Some complete stranger you turned out to be. Hmph.
