Shivering from the greenhouse gasses

Oh man, you know what's really awesome? When you're walking to work in the morning, battling insane arctic winds whipping through the tunnels created by mini-scrapers in Farragut Square until it makes your eyes water and tears run down your face - and then it all immediately freezes on your cheeks and in your eyeballs. God, I love that. Almost as much as I love dodging 50 pound, metal piped sidewalk signs nowhere near properly tied down, tumbling down the street searching for something fleshy to impale.

Check out the goods!
This is the rug I bought in Cochin, which finally arrived last Saturday. It's 100% silk, handmade in Kasmir. I totally, totally love it. You all should come by and rub your feet on it and enjoy. Though I can tell I'm going to be conflicted about leaving it out at parties - wanting to show it off but also save it from red wine disaster.

I bought my mom a small 2x3 rug in Jaipur, which she got last week. I can't really remember what it looks like anymore, but she says she loves it, thank goodness, and is going to use it as a wall hanging.

Well, I'd like to talk more, but I'm off to the beach tomorrow and must pack. That's right, THE BEACH. Enjoy the snow, suckers.

High Flying Kite Antics

Okay, NOW all the photos are offically up.
Kite Lessons
This is the guy who taught me how to fly his kite in Jaipur. He's pulling the bright yellow one there.

There all a little mixed up, but you can see the full fourth week here, with the kites and camels and all that. Or you can just start here and go backwards to see the new ones. The Best of India set is also now complete, if you want something a little more brief. Enjoy!

Why 'bowl when you can Bolly?

I think he's showing off

I was going to happily announce that the rest of my India pictures have all been uploaded, but I just realized there's a chunk missing in the middle of the last week, including such treasures as me perched on a camel and adorable children flying kites, so I'll have to do that tonight. In the meantime, you'll have to be satisfied with me on a smiling elephant and awesome photos from the astronomical observatory.

Instead of being bored to death watching two teams I don't care about playing a sport I don't care about, I grabbed the Bollywood dvd's I bought my last day in India and headed up to Steph's sweet condo in Silver Spring. Sylvie and I stopped at Giant for some fixin's and ended up with a table of snacks to rival the sad little bowl of canned queso you had at your superbowl party, including, but not limited to, homemade crab & cheese dip and red velvet cupcakes. Then, during intermission (yes, Bollywood movies are so long they all break for intermission), we ordered Indian food. I thoroughly enjoyed the awesomely cheesy dance numbers with my butter chicken.

Then I got a call from my landlord telling me they're shutting off the heat in my house today. Permanently. Fuck.
